The University of Stellenbosch, through its Centre for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Studies (CRSES) and the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, focuses on the application of Smart Grids in distributed renewable energy systems, as well as network communications, demand-side technologies and supply-side technologies for application in Smart Grids.

It will launch a new post graduate MEng degree programme in 2018 on Smart Grid Technology offered through the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

The coursework-based programme will include modules on renewable energy including energy storage, Smart Grid Technology Overview, Integrated Demand Side Technologies, Integrated Supply Side Technologies and Smart Grid Communications.
